Happy Birthday Mom!

by | Jan 31, 2009 | Blog | 3 comments

So it’s our mom’s birthday so we thought we send out a shout out over the internet for her (don’t worry mom we won’t tell them how young you are). Since she really likes autobiographies we reviewed an autobiography each in her honor. She even asked us about doing autobiographies on our blog, which both of us predicted she would and to keep things consistent it won’t be hard to guess what part of your present is since you know Buying Books for Birthdays is always good idea.

Holly’s review A Girl from Yamhill by Beverly Cleary

Cari’s review Guts: The True Stories Behind Hatchet and the Brian Books by Gary Paulsen

Thanks for spotlighting me and adding to my birthday celebration with some autobiography reviews. I can’t wait to get to the library and read the books. I enjoy reading your blog and reliving some of the mentioned family memories – the Christmas caroling, grandparents reading, the “you can cut my hair after I cut your hair”, the blankie pictures and memories, etc.

Cari said you two predicted that I would comment about or ask about autobiographies before you started your blog. I guess you have me figured out as that was the topic of my first post on your blog. I remember as young girl reading a book about Marie Curie. When I was in junior high I used to phone my friend Gail Bybee and we would ride our bikes and meet at one of the branch libraries in our town. We would visit as we picked out books to check out and then bike back to our individual homes to read our books.

I was listening to a tribute to the author John Updike on the Charlie Rose TV show last evening and was intrigued by the replay of an interview where Updike was discussing that characters in a novel were like a dog on a leash, under the ultimate control of the dogwalker but the dog often took off in directions that were unexpected by the author.

Anyway, your blog makes me proud. I am grateful that you are my daughters and that you have colluded on such a great project.

    Love, Mom
